The Edinburgh Retreat

After a lifetime in a house that was inherited rather than chosen, an Aberdeen couple came looking for somewhere entirely their own, a place with no old walls of memory to live up to. What they found was a plain 1970s flat in Edinburgh, and what they made of it was something closer to a quiet exhale: rooms that open into one another, light that travels further than it used to, and corners built simply for sitting down and staying a while. A single mural blooms across one wall as it grew there, and everywhere else the materials were chosen the way old friends are, for how they'll wear, not how they'll photograph. It's a home built for two people arriving for the weekend, wanting nothing of their everyday life to follow them in. Nothing here shouts. It just settles, the way a good holiday does.
